A note to Chihayafuru and this pair:
I absolutely utterly love these two, they are adorable and clueless and karuta-dorks.
Chihayafuru is an amazingly gripping show, never thought I would love it THIS much -
and surprise surprise - romance is NOT the main thing here. And it's still pretty entertaining for girls and women.
The way the characters are hyped up about the karuta game and them being them selves is awesome enough to keep you interested.
(but I'm not saying that I don't enjoy the romance that is present
since it is...and surprise surprise again - this time, the one yearning for it is a boy, not the main heroine. Which is quite surprising in genre aimed at women).
I know most people ship Taichi and Chihaya, since "he's suffering so much and he's so perfect and he loves her".... His unrequited feelings didn't leave me cold either. But from the first moment of interaction between Arata and Chihaya, how he taught her about the game and got her hooked on it, I felt that they kinda'....belong together in a way.
Even though he might not love her (yet) (but he does seem very very fond of everything Chihaya-related).
Even though she's oblivious as hell toward what love means and didn't realize that she actually loves Arata.
I think I'm a fool for these "read-between-lines"-relationships.... They both share the same kind of passion and are innocent. They focus on the game and even though they barely meet (just like Orihime and Hikoboushi, to whom they are compared), they still manage to influence each other drastically. I still might think Taichi has a massive chance, since he's the one being with Chihaya most of the time...
In the future, I really hope to see a showdown between them in karuta!
